You probably know someone who is in college and high-school. They did it because they can — and you could do it, too.
It’s not a stupid idea. It’s not just for students who think they’re all that. It’s not complicated.
It can give you a jumpstart. It saves you (or your parents or guardians) thousands of dollars. It doesn’t make sense for everybody, but it makes total sense if you are:
even a little bit ahead of your classmates
slightly (even secretly) motivated
not really sure about your college major
This thing is worth a look.
Who wouldn’t love to have a few basic college courses complete before they graduate high school? You could get a feel for college and get ahead of the game.
Who wouldn’t like to say they’re in college while they’re still in high school? You don’t have to brag about it (but you could).
Who wouldn’t love to skip paying for a few college credits? You get it if this is gonna be you. If parents or guardians are helping (or planning to foot the bill), they’ll be fans.
It’s completely possible — and easier than it sounds. Search a few college websites to discover what’s available in your world.
Even if you don’t care right now, you should note that a new federal education law that has expanded dual enrollment, and lots of college-bound high-schoolers are diving in. It’s a thing now.
If the adults in your life are clueless about this, just read this aloud to them: There is no cost to students. There has been an increase in state and local investment of federal funds for college courses available in high schools, according to the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships, the sole national accrediting body for concurrent enrollment partnerships. It’s called the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
