The Kirtland Community College Foundation is offering new scholarships specifically for homeschooled dual enrollment students. Two $500.00 scholarships will be awarded for the fall and winter semesters for the 2013/2014 academic year, providing homeschooled high school students the ability to earn college credit while still completing high school graduation requirements.  The deadline for scholarship application is Friday, August 16, 2013.

Kirtland’s Homeschool Dual Enrollment scholarships create opportunities specifically for homeschooled students our surrounding area.  “There is a growing population of families in northern Michigan committed to homeschooling their children,” said Michelle Devine, Admissions Coordinator at Kirtland Community College.  “While this is proving to be very successful and educationally challenging, these families forego the opportunity to receive funding from the State of Michigan which pays the cost of tuition, as is done for public and private school high school students.”

To view and download the scholarship application, go to www.kirtlandfoundation.org/scholarships . If you are not yet a Kirtland Dual Enrolled student, you can apply online at www.kirtland.edu/admissions-process-for-home-schooled-students.  There is no cost to apply for admission.  Donations to Kirtland’s Homeschool Dual Enrollment scholarship can be made at www.kirtlandfoundation.org by selecting the “Donate Now” button. A donation of any size helps to ensure that future homeschooled students continue to have an opportunity to be selected to receive this scholarship.

Questions regarding Kirtland’s Homeschool Dual Enrollment scholarship can be directed to Michelle Devine at (989) 275-5000, ext. 284, or Katie Tisdale at (989) 275-5000, ext. 388.  For more information on the Michigan Department of Education’s Dual Enrollment law, refer to http://1.usa.gov/1cA23CI.

Annually, more than 3,000 students attend a variety of occupational, skilled trades, two-year and transfer degree programs at Kirtland’s locations near Roscommon, Kirtland-Gaylord, Kirtland-West Branch and in Tawas.  Kirtland also offers a wide range of online courses and degrees, all of which can be completed from home.
